Guest guest
Thanks Linda. All of that info is good to know. I think that I will print it out to have as a reference. We've decided this time to take I5 through Seatle and then take the coastal route down till almost San Francisco and then back to I5. Something a little different. On the way home, we will probably just come up I5 cuz that is what we are used to. I forgot about that place that You and PT rave about - the Lotus Garden. Maybe, we'll end up stopping in Eugene. We do that sometimes. Do they have take-out? We are traveling with a very old and cranky pekingese and we don't like to leave him alone for long in the car and never alone in a motel room. BTW, that was one of the things that I read that surprised me (though I don't know why). The customs site said to not to try to bring dog food over the border. I homecook for Nigel anyways but, just the fact that I can't bring anything from home for him is a pain in the butt too. Thanks Again! Guest guest
Oh, yes, they have take out. Just be sure to have utensils and any condiments you might like. I think their best dish is called Lotus Delight, spicy, but not too hot. You can get fried, brown or white rice. I love their fried rice though as a treat. There sweet and sour nuggets are great too. Not spicy, just sweet. Oh, yes, pet food. No, they absolutely won't let you bring it in no matter what. There were some people pulled over with us that had really expensive dog food and they made them give it up despite the fact it was only available in Canada and the only thing that this sweet little dog would eat. They were pissed. I was distracting entertainment at that moment though. They were taking our food away too, so I was eating it first and the guard said I was eating the evidence. I laughed and continued to eat. He left me alone. LOL The last time we came through we set off their alarms. Seems that the girlfriend I was with had had a thallium stress test about 10 days before...it should have been out of her system but it wasn't. They confirmed that was what it was with a fancy machine, but up until there you would have thought we were Bin Laden in drag. They were horrible and ugly with us at first and then okay after they determined we weren't three women ladened with bombs carrying out a suicide mission. We actually all had passports too, which didn't matter a dit to them. You could put a little plastic bag of the doggy food in your coat so that puppy will have something to eat when you get here. Just tell them that you are stopping at Haggens to get more after getting across the border...they never pat you down. PT will probably have a fit me telling you to break the law...but then, what most of you don't know is that she is the reincarnation of Bonnie of Bonnie and Clyde fame. LOL Your trip route sounds marvelous. Make sure that if you are not crossing over until near SF that you keep a full tank of gas when on 101. There comes a point where gas stations are far apart and it will probably be expensive. linda " steffdav46 " <steffdav46 > Thanks Linda. All of that info is good to know. Guest guest
ROFL! i have no problems with personal liberty and sticking it to the man especially when the rules make no sense at all... We never had those fruit/veggie/whatever inspection stations back east; we just crossed borders of states with our picnic baskets undefiled. And here i thought i was moving to the wild, wild west! ~ pt ~ Ever drifting, drifting, drifting On the shifting Currents of the restless main; Till in sheltered coves, and reaches Of sandy beaches, All have found repose again. ~ Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, 'Seaweed' ~~~*~~~*~~~> , " linda " <lindai81 wrote: PT will probably have a fit me telling you to break the > law...but then, what most of you don't know is that she is the reincarnation > of Bonnie of Bonnie and Clyde fame.
