Guest guest
1. How long have you been a vegetarian? Only about one month. 2. What sort of Vegetarian are you? Have successfully cut out all meat and seafood. Now working on dairy and eggs but those tend to be a bit sneakier and you really need to read labels. 3. What are your long term plans? I intend to continue eating this way as I feel so much better. Thanksgiving and Christmas will be hardest as I do love turkey. May have to have a little of that. I am eating whole foods and veggies because it is more efficient and energy isn't lost down the food chain. I am not against eating animals entirely. Guest guest
Hi Wee I have been vegetarian for 38-39 years. Before that I ate as little meat and fish as I could get away with. I am currently a lacto vegetarian, although I no longer eat very much in the way of dairy. I can't eat anything resembling meat, so no quorn or TVP or seitan for me. I don't eat a lot of tofu either. I hate soya milk but I have started using Tiger White on my muesli. This is made from tiger nuts or chufas which are sedge roots and is flavoured with cinnamon. It is a traditional drink in Spain called horchata (not to be confused with Mexican horchata, which is different). I intend to become completely vegan in the next couple of months. Mostly I seem to be naturally moving towards a simpler diet - grains, pulses, vegetables and fruit. Then at complete odds with this is an obsession with chocolate, cakes and desserts. I think I'm still trying to make up for all the puddings my mum withheld when I refused to eat meat when I was a child! Christie
Guest guest
Hi Paul I really agree with your third point. I think it is important for people to eat what they feel is right for themselves. I don't have a problem with anyone eating meat or fish but I would not be prepared to cook it for them (I've never cooked it, so I wouldn't know where to begin anyway) and I would rather they didn't cook it in my home. Eventually I will probably become the type that still eats cheese, eggs and milk. I would already be there, but have had a terrible time adjusting to feeling hungry all the time and quite a few vegetables don't sit well with me. For years I've relied on white pasta, cheese, bread, chocolate. Now I'm working on incorporating whole grains, more legumes, more veggies, and much less cheese. I've eliminated high fructose corn syrup, caramel coloring, caffeine, fake sugars, and I'm trying to replace sugar and white flour with healthier substitutes as much as possible. I need to lose weight, but I'm focusing on the health aspect. Having said all that, I became vegetarian originally for ethical reasons. :-) Sharon

Guest guest
1. How long have you been a vegetarian? Off and on for 24+ years. 2. What sort of Vegetarian are you? Mostly vegan. No dairy (respiratory allergy); I am an Almond milk fiend!!! I will occasionally allow egg if in a bought brownie, bread, or some such, but use alternatives at home. Rarely, I will eat some seafood, if in a restaurant that does not offer much in the way of vegan alternatives. I use very little soy, and think most veg*ns depend on it way too much-- & I wonder what the long term results will be..... 3. What are your long term plans? To keep on, keeping on.... Thia -- === " To find the universal elements enough; to find the air and the water exhilarating; to be refreshed by a morning walk or an evening saunter; to be thrilled by the stars at night; to be elated over a bird's nest or a wildflower in spring - these are some of the rewards of the simple life. Guest guest
1. How long have you been a vegetarian? I became vegetarian as a child about 25 years ago. I had a few one time incident slips along the way due to peer pressure. Being different was tough as a little kid. In high school I read the book " A Diet for A New America " and after that I never gave into the peer pressure again. It was much easier to be vegetarian in high school than elementary school though. In 5th grade I remember trading the " meat of the day " entree with a boy in my class for his brownie. Is the only time I remember not bringing my lunch. 2. What sort of Vegetarian are you? I am currently lacto-vegetarian. No consumption of actual milk but foods that " may contain some dairy. " 3. What are your long term plans? I'd like to be vegan. And I've been vegan for long periods at a time. Talk is cheap. Use Messenger to make PC-to-Phone calls. Great rates starting at 1¢/min. Guest guest
Hi - I know about the hungry all the time feeling, I got rid of that problem by eating oatmeal in the morning with a fruit, and drank tons of water all day long it helped me alot and I lost some heafty pounds. A low fat yogurt drink in between can help too. kittyhorn wrote: 1. How long have you been a vegetarian? I'm in transition - so not quite there 100% yet. 2. What sort of Vegetarian are you? Guest guest
Whole grains in breads, cereals, muffins, and oatmeal are wonderful at helping you feel full. Also lots of fiber in the diet... from other things as well, like apples, fresh veggies, and other fruit fill you up. I love to stir fruit flavored yogurt, Like Breyers fruit on the bottom or Stoneyfield Yogurts, into dry Bare Naked Granola and eat it like that for breakfast....... It is so good.
