Our postal rate is 30 pence for first class (should arrive next day)

and 21 pence for second class (may take about a week or so to arrive).

I just checked the currency rates and 39 cents is about 23 pence at

the moment.

postage was only 2 cents. However, it is 39 cents to mail a first

class letter. It went up 2 cents from 37 cents. Since most of us have

leftover 37 cent stamps we are just buying the 2 cent stamps to add

onto the old ones rather than wasting them. How much is yours?

the price increase with stamps is a hot topic in my home. my partner has been

with the postal service for over 20 yrs. we get alot of complaints re: rate

increase. so, for anyone wondering, and while i try to not post political

thoughts here.....the rate is a direct result of skyrocketing gas prices for the

vehicles and the cost to operate with heat etc the postal offices. personally,

i was surprised it did not go up to 40 cents instead of 39. with that in mind,

the unites states has one of the lowest prices in the world for postage, and

they really do a good job of delivering the mail. the post office also cannot

use other gov't money....they actually have to stay within the budget they

have....not that they don't waste money....lololololol.........

One thing has been puzzling me though. Does the mail over there only

cost 2 cents or has it just gone up by 2 cents? I know things are a

lot cheaper in the USA than here, but I find I don't want to believe

your mail only costs 2 cents, as it hasn't been that price here since

Victorian times!

I don't have a problem with the rate hike, only with always having to go out and

buy extra stamps. I always seem to have just gotten a large number of stamps

when the rates go up. I heard about this proposed rate hike last fall and called

the PO and asked. They said they had not heard of it...think I probably heard it

on CNN so of course when I ran out of stamps I bought a butt load more. Have 40

of those suckers left and had to go get 2 cent stamps along with everyone else.
