Guest guest
Folks, Has anyone heard of Water Convolvulus better known as " Kang Kong " ? It is use in South East Asia a lot. I have a gut " fiddleheads " have the same texture as " Kang Kong " . My sister in Zurich, Switzerland reckons that it has the same flavour and texture as " fiddleheads " and is a good substitute. She said she tasted " fiddleheads " in Canada when she was over there visiting friends and she told her friends that it has the same taste and texture as " fiddleheads " . If you google " Kang Kong " , you see a lists these amazing plant. The plant grows in swamps and marshlands where it is full of nutrients. In Vietnam and Malaysia, people eat " Kang Kong " sautéed with garlis and onions with chilli added. It is quite nice and I can vouch for that as I have eaten them when I was a young lad growing up in Brunei. I have very fond memories of eating this plant this way only. I have never tried eating it as a salad but if I get hold of it in UK, I will try Thought I share this information with you lot in here Maybe it will spark off interest in this amazing plant. Time will tell if there is any interest in our Western society. I have a hunch, it will snowball and more and more people will suddenly take interest in this amazing plant. When I came here in 1972, Europeans will not touch Ginger or Galangal. Now, even Asda(Wallmart), Tesco, Morrisons, and Sainsbury all sell them along with garlic, lemon grass and many other exotic plants from the Far East. Sorry if I ramble on a bit, but I just want to share information with all my friends here. Best wishes, Wee
