Guest guest
I don't know about you all, but that Organic Valley spinach had become a staple of my diet! It's not a surprise when someone gets sick form eating undercooked meat, because well,... it is what it is. But this is scary how frequntly and large scale veggies are being contaminated. hope they get this sorted out quickly! Kroger and Wild Oats both had bare spots where the spinach used to be. And Wild Oats had a note saying that their spinach was quarenteened. I guess if the source is found and their stuff is safe and not mushy by then, it goes back in the shelf. Have they found the bacteria in any of the bags they have tested yet? , " jandor9 " <jandor9 wrote: > > WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Consumers should avoid all fresh spinach, > regardless of whether it is pre-packaged, a chief U.S. food safety > official warned on Saturday, saying the number of E. coli illnesses > had passed 100. > > " We need to get a clear message to consumers, " said Dr. David > Acheson, the U.S.Food and Drug Administration's director of food > safety and security. > > " Some consumers may not be aware that spinach that may be available > to them may have been pre-packaged, " he said referring to loose > spinach sold in restaurants and supermarkets. > > While the FDA did not expand the warning beyond fresh spinach, > Acheson said the investigation into the cause of the illnesses was > continuing and other possible sources had not been excluded. > > Investigators believe that the spinach was contaminated before it was > bagged since more than one bag contained contaminated product, > Acheson said on a Saturday evening conference call with reporters. >
Guest guest
I was just reading that this is the TWENTYTH outbreak of E.Coli in lettuce and spinach from California since 1995. Holy Ca-Ca!!!!And that they had received " sternly worded " warnings from the FDA in 2004 and 2005 to " improve produce safety " . I don't think I'll be any raw leafy greens from California for a looooonnnng time..... Guest guest
that's a little shortsighted. ANY body growing food can have that happen to them. Just because it Happened in California does not mean that it Can't Happen Anywhere else. Guest guest
Without getting personal, look at it statistically, 40% of all the outbreaks are from one state. One state out of a possible fifty. I don't like the odds and I don't gamble. I also don't water my garden with waste water..... Janis , Lynn <mrningdw wrote: > > that's a little shortsighted.
