Help w/ Birthday Party

My daughter had her 11th birthday party and it was veggie all the way. Not vegan

though.

We served veggie tacos with all the fixins, homemade salsa, cheese dip,

homemade french onion dip with potato chips, fruit salad and of course cake and

ice cream... most of the kids didn't touch the potato chips and french onion

dip...they wanted the other stuff!

We invited the parents to eat when they showed up to pick up the kids.

We held it at a local community center... it turned out great and everyone loved

the food!

Best of all it was easy to fix!

Hope this helps!

That is Cool!!! You've got a great daughter.

Sam

And as a brag - for her b-day she decided she didn't want her guests

bringing gifts, she gets a " big " gift from us and her grandparents each

year

(we're getting her a new bike, grandparents are getting her a desk), so

she

asked all her guests instead of bring a present for her (which usually

gets

stuffed in a drawer or closet and goes to waste), she asked everyone to

bring dog/cat food or cat litter to be donated to a no-kill shelter in

our

area! I am so proud of her!

Awwwww..too cute. Maybe you could make some mini veggie wraps and

have a tray of a variety of ingredients and let the kids make their

own. They also sell sugar free fruit rolls and fruit snacks. Check

out the veggie meat balls and burgers, they'll never no the

difference. They also have pita chips you could use. If I think of

some more, I'll post them...Uhuru (peace)

aww Stacee!!! what a very generous heart your daughter has!!! I think that is

just awesome as my kids would say, and kudos to you. ;-D

We just had this issue ourselves, and i caved and made a meat main dish that

my husband requested. as my entire family is major carnivores and then some, it

was a big hit. BUT everything else that i made was meat free. ;-)

I made a veggie pasta salad, hummus with pita chips and blue corn chips and

veggies, spinach dip with sweet bread...

veggie rollups is a great idea... and would be good for kids that age.

My dd is having her 10th b-day party this saturday , and I'm trying to think

of what vegetarian food I can " serve " /have at the party. She got her

comic books from Peta kids and was literally in tears afterwards and has

decided she doesn't want to eat meat or wear leather - so she wants to only

serve veggie food, and I'm at a bit of a loss. Any help or ideas are greatly

appreciated!! I've got a few snacks in mind, but also looking for something

a little more " substantial " but nothing w/ tofu or tvp as most of the guests

are sort of " anti-tofu " .

Thanks everyone for your suggestions! That will really help :)

The crazy thing is, suddenly the kids have decided to be

vegetarians, even my 7 yr old ds - who had a really, really, hard

time when we were doing great about it. We got the Peta

kids " comics " in today and they read them and were practically in

tears! My ds was so upset b/c he apparently didn't realize what he

was eating and how it " gets to his plate " . My dd knew most of it,

but had such a hard time w/ all the pressure from ds and other

family members. They begged me to go to the store and buy Boca

burgers for dinner and are swearing off all meat! I had such a hard

time convincing him last time we tried, but now HE decided so it'll

be easier. It's funny b/c I was just saying how I thought it would

take some time to get the family vegetarian, but apparently it

really is an overnight thing -- well, mid-day at least.

I already had food planned for the party, but it did involve meat -

so I needed new ideas. I told the kids, " Well, I've got all this

meat in the freezer, what should I do with it? Do you want to

finish it off? " - They were both " NO way! " My ds said, " You have

friends, give it to them " . I'm so happy, it's just much easier when

everyone is on board! Dh could care less one way or the other as

long as he gets to eat, lol.

Anyhow ... rambling yet again... :)

Stacee, I love the spelling of your name, since my spelling is

Stacie, lol. Anyway, some things you might try:

1. Vegetable platter: carrot strips, celery strips, pepper

strips, cucumbers, broccoli, etc with a dip in the middle.

2. Mozzarella sticks, I get these alot when I go to hubbys

bar,a nd having a hard time figuring out something *vegetarian*

3. Rice cakes with dips or spreads, like peanut butter,

jellies, cream cheese.

4. Popcorn balls, even tho I know some are picky about

marshmallows, perhaps you can figure out something with that.

Hope these ideas help, I am slowly figuring things out myself, lol.

HI Stacee:

You can make vegetarian refried beans and the kids could make there own

taco's or burritos.

You can serve pasta with pesto, and a pasta with tomato sauce, a big salad,

and garlic bread.

Veggies, chips and dip, and hummus, and salsa.

My son has been a vegetarian for years, acutally he

has never had beef or pork and he is seven. He just

tells me that its wrong to eat animals and I used to

eat meat a few years ago. When we have a party we

usually have a mix of foods to make everyone happy.

Anyway some ideas for some fun foods for the birthday

party. Salsa and different colored corn chips, veggie

chips and some dip. Cheese cubes or sticks for those

non-vegetarian children. Veggie/fruit tray bite size

carrots, apples, and grapes with a fruit dip. Get a

cookie cutter and make some stylish peanut butter and

jelly sandwiches. I know some people are picky about

marshmellows but sometimes just a bowl of them at a

kid's party is a big hit.

Hope this helps!

We often make Haystacks at Party. Here is how you do it. I like to line the

items up on the table in the order that you layer them on your plate. If you do

it ahead, the Corn Chips will be soggy. Everyone loves these. Everyone makes

their own.

.

Haystacks ( very quick delicious meal in 5 minutes)

1 bag of Corn Chips

1 lg. can of Bush Chili Beans or make your own

Sour Cream

Grated Cheese

Chopped onions

Chopped Olives

Chopped Lettuce

Chopped Tomatoes

Chopped Green Peppers

Heat the Beans. You can either keep the Salad type ingredients separate or

mix them together like a salad( I do this). We then let everyone make their

own haystack when they are ready to eat. Do it in this order. Put some

Corn Chips your plate first. The put some hot beans over them. Then the

grated cheese(being next over the hot beans helps it to melt/soften some),

sour cream and the salad type toppings. Add salsa if you like.Enjoy,Judy

OH I had forgotten about that. I was in charge of snack at our church one

year for Vacation Bible School and I served this. It is so quick to make up,

which I did ahead of time. They loved it.
