I know, not appetizing to a veggie person lol but from Wee's

description I think it's the word they use for a mature zucchini. In

the 1st Poirot story, he is retiring to the country to " grow the

marrows " but fortunately a murder happens and he is able to " send the

marrows to the devil. "

Still I'd much rather have fried zucchini than fried marrow lol

A vegetable marrow is related to the courgette or zucchini but is

much much bigger. The one I bought at the weekend is 12 inches long

by 5 inches in diameter and is quite a small example. I think it

would be called marrow squash over there.

 

It's funny how offputting a name can be. I found myself

automatically deleting recipes with eggplant in them because it

sounds so rank, whereas aubergine sounds much more appetising to me,

LOL.
