In her generation, there is nought to much " healthy eating " nomenclature around. I mean, it wasn't a big thing, then...see what I mean? <big smile> I am so proud of you making the switch to complete vegan. I would like to do the same, but right now, it is too difficult for me Who doesn't want to be healthy, ha? < another even bigger smile > I am still dreaming of rubbing shoulders with you one day, hope it be soon, ha )))))))) Big Hugs your way, Wee On Behalf Of Christie Monday, September 04, 2006 1:06 AM Re: **** Question of the week **** Hi Wee I have been vegetarian for 38-39 years. Before that I ate as little meat and fish as I could get away with. I am currently a lacto vegetarian, although I no longer eat very much in the way of dairy. I can't eat anything resembling meat, so no quorn or TVP or seitan for me. I don't eat a lot of tofu either. I hate soya milk but I have started using Tiger White on my muesli. This is made from tiger nuts or chufas which are sedge roots and is flavoured with cinnamon. It is a traditional drink in Spain called horchata (not to be confused with Mexican horchata, which is different). I intend to become completely vegan in the next couple of months. Mostly I seem to be naturally moving towards a simpler diet - grains, pulses, vegetables and fruit. Then at complete odds with this is an obsession with chocolate, cakes and desserts. I think I'm still trying to make up for all the puddings my mum withheld when I refused to eat meat when I was a child! Christie

Guest guest
Hi Wee It is still a few weeks before I go to Spain - next week I am working in Dundee. Then I go to visit my Dad in Hemel Hempstead and after that I go to Spain. Unfortunately I am flying to Luton and then from Stansted and not Heathrow, or I would have come to visit you. Yes I will miss Hill Station cardamom ice cream. I may have to buy myself a tub of that this week! I have a recipe for vegan ice Cream which I must try. I found Tiger White in the Health Food Shop. I prefer the unsweetened one. I need to try cooking with it when I get back from my holiday. Here is the website which explains what it is: www.tigerwhitedrinks.com When I became vegetarian it was still pretty unusual in Britain. I never heard of another vegetarian until I went to college and even then there were only 6 of us in a college of about 400. Everyone said I would be ill if I didn't eat meat and being vegetarian really wasn't understood so I don't blame my mum for her attitude. I am so pleased that things have changed here in the last 38 years. Did you see the National IQ test on TV on Saturday? There were a number of different groups of people taking part - celebrities, estate agents, vegetarians, butchers etc. The vegetarians came out on top and the person with the highest IQ on the show turned out to be one of the vegetarians. YAY!
