Guest guest
Hi Linda, Thanks so much for all the fabulous information you have given me. I truly appreciate the time and trouble you have taken. I have printed your e-mail and have it with my other written information about diabetes. At this early stage in my diabetic 'career' the doctor and dietician have recommended eating all vegetables, including potatoes etc but to keep a close watch on the effect they are having. I have also been advised to eat smaller quantities but more frequently. I have an appointment with the dietician tomorrow so we will see how things are going. The approach she is taking at the moment is the carbohydrate portions method and she wants to see exactly how many potions I need to have each day. As you say, I am an ovo-lacto vegetarian. Even if I wasn't watching my fat intake, I have to be very careful about the use of eggs and also dairy products (from cows) as they are things which Hans is supposed to severely restrict. At the moment I am trying to build up a selection of recipes which meet the requirements of both diets. I simply don't have the time to cook separate meals for each of us. We also love to entertain so that is going to be a hugely interesting challenge - finding meals that fit our diets but which are also suitable for serving to dinner guests (many of whom would find our new way of eating incredibly bland and boring). I received an invitation from pat to join the Diabetic Vegan and Vegetarian group and I have just received my approval. I'm sure I will get some great ideas from the group. Thanks again for all your advice. Cheers from Marie in Holland " linda " <lindai81 Re: two " recipes without almost everything " !! What a bummer to have so many dietary restrictions. Hope that the medicine works for your diabetes without trouble. I have just a couple of things to mention....all carbohydrates convert to glucose and will raise blood sugars, and even with meat there is a portion that will convert too....whole grains are best of course because they convert a tad bit slower keeping blood sugars from spiking. Test, test, test, is the absolute key to controlling your diabetes as different foods affect different people differently and maybe some foods won't raise your blood sugars while for other people it will.
