Guest guest
I remember seeing a discussion on Vit D but don't remember which list so I am going to put my two cents in on here and it probably is really redundant..but so am I, so here goes. To be a vegan Vit D you need D2. D3 is not and not vegetarian either. Also you have to watch out for the coatings on all vitamins and if it is in a gelatin capsule you need to find out what that is as it usually is from an animal by-product. I buy VegLife brand, 100% Vegan, D2 and lanolin-free. I get 100 tablets for $4.95. I take a multi-vitamin but it doesn't have the D in it for some odd reason.Living in the Pacific Northwest where we don't see the sun directly for long periods of time and having a problem with that I take a supplement. For us living out here, and particularly up around Seattle, studies have recommended that we take a supplemental form of D since sun time is minimal in the fall, winter, spring and SAD is rampant. It used to be that the Seattle area had the highest suicide rate in the country and much was attibuted to that lack of sun and Vit D. I don't know if that is still true, but my guess is that only Alaska would be worse (aside from the Arctic). Northern Exposure, an old series from the 90's did a number of episodes on the effects of the lack of sun would reek on inhabitants....they all walked around with those full spectrum lights attached to their heads similar to a miner's light. Now there is an idea! LOL If we all did it we wouldn't look odd. linda
