Guest guest
It's funny, because the organic grapes only seem to come from CA, so maybe some of the price hike is transportation cost...if I could get them locally I would. I am paying less than $4.00 per basket for organic strawberries @ my local Coop here in Eureka CA--300 miles north of San Francisco. They are probably less at the many farmer's markets held here, but I don't have time to shop at farmer's markets. I have not purchased grapes recently, but I am sure they are not that high. HOwever whatever the price, organic strawberries & grapes always taste a lot better. > > Kathleen > Eureka CA
Guest guest
You know this is something that I have been thinking about and trying to reconcile. I'd like to support local farmers in that the transportation costs and support for the local economy is important but if I can't find organic I have no choice but to buy from CA. I was talking to my husband and I think we have decided to buy local organic while in season and the when out of season locally, buy the CA stuff just so we have veggies and fruits to eat. Little late in the season to be thinking of this but I think over the winter I will seriously explore ways to freeze and can so I can buy local and save it for when it isn't in season.
