Ever the animal rights activist, John Abraham is at it again! Barely a few months after championing the cause of banning the sale of captive birds in Mumbai, John with the help of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) India, has successfully managed to ensure that madari-monkeys will not perform within the jurisdiction of Mumbai, Thane and Navi Mumbai. In a recent meeting at Mantralaya with Minister of State for Forests Babbanrao Pachpute, John put forth his feelings. " I see a lot of monkeys being forced to 'dance' or to beg in and around the city. The animals are in a pitiful state. They are made to walk on the hot tar roads of the city, their teeth are pulled out by the madaris so that the monkeys do not bite them — and this is done without anaesthesia! " As a solution, John not only suggested the immediate banning of madari-monkeys, but also requested to confiscate the animals. " I think we need to increase the infrastructure at the Katraj rescue centre in Pune to take in these monkeys, " said John, who also voiced his opinion on the immediate need for a larger rescue and rehabilitation centre for monkeys. After considering John's requests and suggestions Pachpute gave an assurance that immediate directions would be issued to ensure that madari-monkeys will not perform within the jurisdiction of Mumbai, Thane and Navi Mumbai. -- Fight captive Jumbo abuse, end Elephant Polo http://www.stopelephantpolo.com
