Chief wildlife warden M.C. Malakar told this newspaper: " Elephant begging on the roads, specially in front of temples, had become a common sight. There are instances of such animals going berserk, injuring and killing innocent people and destroying property. This is an offence under Section 289 of the Indian Penal Code. " Mr M.C. Malakar, the chief wildlife warden, added: " We have directed district forest officers to enforce the existing provisions of law.
