I was so, so dejected to read Rosa Close's letter re the attacks on Ms.

Duo Zirong and her work.

I have no first hand knowledge of local events but when it comes to

animal welfare and animal people,

the problem is the same around the world.

We are our own worst enemy and lose no opportunity to run others in the

field down. Instead of helping

them and appreciating their contribution to the cause, we nit-pick and

find fault with what they are doing.

The public perception and image of animal welfare and the people in it

is already not the best - let us not

make it worse by such infighting.

A wise man once said: " I have seen the enemy and he is us " .

SHANGHAI DAILY: Cat Woman, Cat Crisis -- Shanghai Daily |

Dear Sir/Madam,

First of all, I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for

writing such a fantastic article on the Shanghai cat rescue. Ms. Duo

Zirong is a compassionate citizen who cares so much for the defenseless

so as make sacrifices in ways that very few people in this world would.

I am writing to you because I am extremely anguished by the harassment

Duo Zirong is receiving from SCAA who took their attacks to the extreme

to damage Duo Zirong and her family's reputation. You will see on the

link below, the poison SCAA is spreading about Duo Zirong which I find

rather unethical and shows clearly large amounts of jealousy and fear of

losing donations to Duo Zirong's worldwide publicity.

What SCAA doesn't know is that Ms. Zirong is not accepting donations - I

know it because my organization offered to help and they vigorously

declined it because of the harassment they are suffering. Among other

terrible attacks, they are being accused of saving cats to get money and

publicity as well as being a hoarder. There are people actually breaking

in their cat shelter, and throwing cats out of the window, many of them

getting broken backs by the fall and so many other really unspeakable

acts.

I think that SCAA's vicious attacks on a citizen who is trying to bend

over backwards to save animals is quite disgraceful and they should be

ashamed of themselves. Duo's courage to go ahead and a make a difference

for hundreds of cats that otherwise would die miserably in boiling pots

of restaurants as well as draw attention to the pet trade 4 food is

worth praise and aid NOT condemnation. What would SCAA prefer? To have

truck loads with thousands of cats and dogs for food circulating on

" business as usual " manner? Why would they want such a thing if they

were truly animal lovers???? That's a good question, isn't it?

SCAA says that bags and bags of dead cats were everywhere...Of course

there were dead cats! Most of the cats were nearly dead when Duo Zirong

rescued them. Hundreds died by the hour -- due to dehydration, hunger,

diseases and 40C temperature. They had 7 air conditioners going around

the clock to try and save the cats from the horrendous heat and

dehydration. Naturally some 50% of cats couldn't make it, but at least

they died in a more dignified way than under a butcher's knife. How

about the other 50% that made it? SCAA is also trying to make it look

like Duo Zirong is cruel to animals. This is not only a shameful attempt

to further discredit Ms. Duo but it also shows that they are grabbing

for " straws " to make a case. Read this http://en.chinafoto

<http://en.chinafotopress.com/index/onegroup?gid=788486>

press.com/index/onegroup?gid=788486<http://en.chinafoto

<http://en.chinafotopress.com/index/onegroup?gid=788486>

press.com/index/onegroup?gid=788486> and tell me if such a person is an

animal lover or not. Apart from that, I have friends in China who

visited Ms. Duo Zirong and found her to be a most kind and honest person

who believes on what she is doing.

Did you know that Duo Zirong is a veterinarian and that she also dropped

everything to work for free for the animals? Also that her husband is a

renowned financial columnist and all his money go to support the cats?

And did you know that the director of SCAA is simply A BUSINESS

CONSULTANT!!!

Dear editors, please publish something to help these compassionate human

beings who are suffering so much harassment. They DO NOT deserve such

harassment.

Thank you very much for your kind attention.

Sincerely,

Rosa Close

PS: I understand that none of the organizations herewith mentioned by

SCAA is a part of her deadly attacks on Ms. Duo Zirong - In any case, I

will be writing to all of them to ask if they are indeed a part of it.

E-mails to SCAA have flooded in from around the globe on this hot topic.

We hope that we have offered a more realistic perspective from being " on

the frontline " . We also hope we have made a convincing case for thinking

twice about encouraging Ms. Duo. If you really want to make a difference

and make a wise investment, please consider donating to SCAA's medical

care costs, educational activities and viable local

projects<about:blank>. Or, to help fund efforts to promote and enforce

animal welfare policies in China, please support the International Fund

for Animal Welfare (IFAW)<about:blank> in Beijing, the Animals Asia

Foundation<about:blank> in Guangzhou, or the UK RSPCA<about:blank> based

in London.
