Chance to help Animals! ------------------------------ 1. FROM THE DESK OF HONY. GEN. SECRETARY: *We often get a call for adoptions & rehabilitation of Pets & other animals. * *The ONLY way to reduce animal**'**s / pet**'**s population is to get them sterilized. This reduces their natural urge* *for mating and fights for the same thereby results in keeping the surrounding calm as their barking is under * *control. They don**'**t leave their area. So opt for spaying and neutering of animals.* ** ** *Yours for Animals,* *Nilesh Bhanage* ------------------------------ 2. SOME NOTABLE FIELD CALLS: #. A call was received from volunteer Mira Desai about a dog being thrown down three storeys from the terrace of a Housing Society in Ayodhya Nagri Complex at 11pm . PAWS volunteers Nilesh, Prasad & Kunal immediately reached to the spot but it was too late and the dog died. The culprit is not known to anyone. #. On 18th August, PAWS volunteer Sherlyn received a call about a dog who met with an accident near Hutch shop at10.00pm. PAWS secretary Nilesh along with volunteer Kunal responded to the call immediately. The dog's front leg was dislocated and it had severe skin injuries and lay bleeding on the road when the ambulance went for its rescue. Unfortunately the dog died early morning at a hospital in Kalyan . # PAWS volunteer - Atul Bhai called PAWS to inform us of an injured donkey . Although it was a bank holiday due to Independence Day, we used all the money which we had and with help from Amit Sangoi , volunteers Prasad , Kunal & Nilesh admitted that donkey to a hospital at 10.30pm. The donkey's leg had maggot wounds and he is currently recuperating at the hospital. Helping the donkey was the best way PAWS celebrated India's Independence Day. Our efforts reinforced Gandhiji's saying that A* country can be judged by the way its animals are treated*. ------------------------------ 5. In some countries, it is the most consumed cereal grain. In the process of removing the outer hull, also known as the bran layer, milling alters the nutritional value of the rice. The bran layer is where most of the nutrients are stored. While white rice is comprised of primarily carbohydrates, with the nutrients stripped off during the milling process. An easy way to ensure a nutritious diet is to choose whole grains to eat with your meals. *Ingredients*: 2 tsp. vegetable oil 1/2 cup onion, chopped 2 cloves garlic, crushed 2 Tbs. slivered almonds 2 3/4 cups water 3/4 cup brown rice 1/2 cup lentils 1/4 cup raisins 2 vegetable bouillon cubes 1 tsp. curry powder 1/4 tsp. ground cumin 1/4 tsp. ground ginger 1/8 tsp. ground allspice 1/8 tsp. salt 1/8 tsp. pepper *Directions*: Heat oil in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Add onion, garlic, and almonds. Cook and stir until onion is tender and almonds are lightly browned (about 5 minutes). Add remaining ingredients and bring mixture to a boil. Reduce heat to low, cover and simmer 40 to 45 minutes, until water has been absorbed. Remove from heat and let sit covered for 5 minutes, then fluff with a fork and serve.
