Shirley Wildlife Times nr 7, <http://www.citesnepal.org>www.citesnepal.org June 29, 2007 Subodh Gautam Nepal Biomedical Research Centre has sought permission from the government to undertake scientific test on DNA of monkeys. NBRC has submitted an application to DNPWC to take samples of blood from Rhesus Macaques to USA for further study. Prabesh Man Shrestha, Director of the research centre states that since Nepal does not have latest scientific tools, the blood samples are being prepared to sent to US for the study. NBRC in partnership with Southeast Foundation Research Centre also runs monkey breeding centre in Lele, Lalitpur. At present, the centre has 99 monkeys and 46 have been bred in captivity. The bred monkeys are being prepared to undergo various medical tests to find cure for human diseases.
