Guest guest Posted September 10, 2007 Report Share Posted September 10, 2007 Bangkok post Monday 10-sep-2007 WILDLIFE Eight nabbed for animal cruelty Surat Thani _ Police yesterday arrested eight men on Koh Samui on charges of illegally possessing protected species of wildlife and cruelty to animals. The eight, suspected to be members of a wildlife smuggling gang, were nabbed in front of the Green Mango pub on the resort island's Chaweng beach. Police found in their possession seven gibbons, a python and an iguana. During the raid, some of the other gang members managed to escape with an eagle and a crocodile, police said. The suspects were identified as Islama-ae Klang, 24, Yarla Porji, 22, Chatchawal Salee, 20, Anand Mangmee, 38, Kriangsak Kitkarn, 28 and Pundit Sepsabai, 27. Police, led by Pol Maj-Gen Boonmee Somsuk, commander of the wildlife protection unit, acted on a complaint filed by Edwin Wiek, director of the Wildlife Friends of Thailand Foundation.
