Guest guest
The state of Assam is experiencing the third wave of floods at present which has affected 17 districts in the state. The Indian Army has been pressed into service to assist flood rescue and relief operations of the respective administrations. There has been a significant loss of human lives and live stock and cattle. The government has announced compensation to those who have lost land, homes and livestock etc. Forest Guards and Rangers in Kaziranga National Park, Pabitora Wildlife Sanctuary and elsewhere are spending sleepless nights to keep a watch on the wildlife that stands being threatened due to the floods. So far in the 3rd wave Kaziranga has lost One Wild buffalo and four Hog Deer ( three hog deer were killed while crossing the National Highway 37 by speeding vehicles). Two vital wooden bridges inside the park have also been washed away. The good news is that after a week of incessant rains the clouds today have seen to part away and the sun is shining bright in most parts of the state. But the Brahmaputra river is still flowing above danger level in most parts of Assam. Azam Siddiqui
