Infact they are one of the worst hit with the animals having no highland to go and literally trapped underwater. NDTV takes you into the heart of a wildlife sanctuary completely submerged. The sight at Pabitora sanctuary may make for good pictures but it actually reveals a state of alarm. This is the third phase of floods this year in Assam, the second in a month, putting wild animals under threat. Pabitora sanctuary has very few highlands and if the water level doesn't recede soon authorities will have little to do. ''During these times animals are our priority. We forget what's happening at home. Even at home our families are affected. But for us it's the animals, they are our children as well,'' said Moti Singh, wildlife guard. The government is trying to grapple with the human crisis. 27 lakh people have been affected in this phase alone. ''Its the worst phase. The state has lost over 700 crores,'' said Tarun Gogoi, Chief Minister. But it's the helpless wild animals that may be the worst hit. -- Fight captive Jumbo abuse, end Elephant Polo http://www.stopelephantpolo.com
