The data, collected till September 7, 2007 is incomplete because inputs from Champhai district have not been received. Serchhip district is the worst hit, with rodents damaging crops on 1,878 hectares of land. Of the 37 villages from which data has been collected, 18 villages have been extensively damaged, low damages have been reported from eight and the rest have suffered moderate damages. Rodents damaged crops on 1,594.40 hectares of land in Aizawl district. Data has been compiled from 48 villages. Thirteen villages have been extensively damaged. Low damages have been reported from 25 villages. The rest of the villages suffered moderate damages. In Lawngtlai district, 1,397 hectares have been affected. All the 16 villages in this district have suffered high damages. In Kolasib, crops in 782.90 hectares have been damaged. High damage has been reported from four villages. Three villages have suffered moderate damages, while low damages have been reported from another three. Rodents damaged crops on 564.8 hectares in Lunglei district. Of the nine villages, six villages reported heavy damages, while three were moderately damaged. In Saiha district, 273.3 hectares of land have been affected in 24 villages. Of these villages, massive damage was reported only in Maubawk. Altogether 19 villages reported moderate damage while four suffered low damages. In Mamit district, 211 hectares of land have been affected. Among 30 villages, 10 have suffered massive damage, while moderate damage has been reported from 13 villages. Farmers in different parts of Mizoram lost around Rs 7.37 crore due to destruction of crops by rodents last year, the first year of *mautam*.
