*Orissa: Baby bitten by dog dies*

NDTV Correspondent

Tuesday, October 2, 2007 (Anandpur)

A baby girl, who was bitten and dragged by a stray dog inside a government

hospital barely two hours after she was born in Orissa's Anandpur town on

September 17, finally succumbed to her injuries on Monday night.

The baby was brought to the SCB Medical College Hospital, Cuttack within

hours of the canine attack.

She was sent back to Anandpur Hospital after three days but had to be rushed

back to the SCB Medical College Hospital once again on the September 29

following complications.

The parents of the baby had blamed the Anandpur hospital authorities for the

mishap and there were demands for a high-level probe into the matter.

However no action has been taken on anyone in this regard.

On the other hand the Anandpur Hospital authorities had said that the baby

was at the disposal of her mother, who had been discharged after delivery,

and it was her responsibility to guard the baby.

They had also expressed helplessness over the presence of stray dogs inside

the hospital campus because there were no boundary walls.
