Guest guest
Free treatments for cats, dogs in Makati City Hall By DJ Yap Inquirer 10/03/2007 MANILA, Philippines--The city government of Makati will provide free treatments for cats and dogs at 8:30 a.m. on Thursday at the City Hall quadrangle in line with the worldwide celebration World Animal Day. Among the treatments to be offered are anti-rabies vaccination, deworming, neutering and consultation with a veterinarian, city officials said. A Catholic mass will start the activity, followed by the blessing of the pets, said Dr. Ma. Vivien C. Manalastas, chief of the Makati City Veterinary Office. The services are open to the public and available on a first come, first served basis, she said. " Freebies " like dog tags and cat collars will be given to early birds, Manalastas said. The city veterinarian urged pet owners to take advantage of the free services, particularly the rabies vaccine shots, which are part of the city's campaign against the deadly disease. " Their cooperation can greatly help the city government in its anti-rabies campaign and in the promotion of responsible pet ownership in Makati, " Manalastas said in a statement. She also encouraged animal lovers to avail themselves of the MCVO's " Adopt a Pet Program, " which allows the adoption of stray dogs that remain unclaimed after a week in the city pound. Interested parties may view the pets from Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., at the ground floor of the Department of Public Safety building on Malugay Street in Barangay San Antonio. The adoption fee is P190, excluding the mandatory pet registration fee for city residents. In related news, the MCVO and Mayor Jejomar Binay entered into an agreement with the Compassion and Responsibility Towards Animals in promoting animal welfare in Makati. Under the agreement, Cara will help the MCVO to manage, supervise, regulate and control the ownership of dogs in the city through the joint promotion of Republic Act 8485, or as " Animal Welfare Act.
