The latest reason is rats on board. Over the last few days, a few flights out of Chennai have been delayed due to rodents inside the aircraft. Officials had a tough time catching a rat that had sneaked into an Indian aircraft IC 955 from Chennai to Malaysia. This was before boarding. But 108 passengers of a Jet Airways flight 9W 613 from Chennai to Port Blair were not so lucky. After they boarded the aircraft and the engines were switched on, a few passengers noticed a rat running between their seats. All passengers had to deplane. The flight was delayed by four hours and took off only after the rodent was caught, the aircraft fumigated and a thorough check of the wiring and other parts was carried out. ''Pilots tell us that it's dangerous as if the rats get into the cockpit, they can damage wires and affect navigation equipment. Passengers have been complaining that they are scared and are forced to put their feet up,'' said D Sudhakara Reddy, President, Air Passengers Assoc of India. Airlines have instructed their staff to ensure that there are no left over food packets on flights as they attract rodents. And passengers are now beginning to look under their seats before fastening their seat belts. -- Fight captive Jumbo abuse, end Elephant Polo http://www.stopelephantpolo.com
