Guest guest
Here we go again. The Indian animal welfare community really needs to make a national campaign of abolishing open dumping of animal remains. I suspect, based on accumulated news accounts, that this practice is a contributing factor to far more biting incidents these days than rabies, & should be anathematized accordingly. ---- The Hindu Monday, October 15, 2007 Girl mauled by stray dogs Staff Reporter Coimbatore: A five-year-old girl Dhanalakshmi of Kangeyampalayam, near Sulur, was mauled by stray dogs when she was playing near her house on Sunday morning. The chicken stalls those do brisk business on Sundays used to dump the poultry waste on a wasteland. Nearly eight to 10 dogs were fighting for their share of poultry waste, when the girl was playing near there. Suddenly the dogs pounced on her, said Dhanalakshmi's father Kannimuthu, a conservancy worker, and wife Neelaveni. Neighbours who heard screaming of the girl chased the dogs and rescued her. With bleeding injuries all over the body, she was rushed to the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital. --- -- Merritt Clifton Editor, ANIMAL PEOPLE P.O.
