They said the villagers carrying torches attacked the mother bear and her cubs with axes. Wildlife officials on Sunday visited the village and recovered the carcasses of the bears, they said adding that two cases had been registered under the Jammu and Kashmir Wildlife Act and JK Forest Act against the villagers. No efforts are done by State wildlife Deptt. to educate the common folk and to Take strong steps to curb this inhumane practice. Moreover Jammu & Kashmir is lagging far behind in implementation of Wildlife Protection Act .
