Guest guest
Dear colleagues, Some time ago I posted an article about a young boy who has been trained to ride a beluga in Qingdao Aquarium in China. I had raised some questions on animal welfare and human safety regarding this show. A picture published on the front page of the Pioneer newspaper dated 27th October, 2007, has this to say about the event: Four year old Chinese boy Huang Yan, who goes by the nickname Yang Yang, rides on a five year old beluga whale named Xiao Qiang at an aquarium in Qingdao, in China's eastern Shandong province. With the Beijing Olympics less than a year away, pint sized athletes are grabbing the spotlight with stunts that some criticise as unsafe or unhealthy, raising questions as to whether they are being pushed by attention seeking adults. Best wishes,
