Guest guest
** The veterinarians and soldiers of Assam Rifles, an Indian Central Para Military Force are involved in a battle to save the life of an injured elephant at the Gamari range near Nameri National Park in Assam. The elephant was found with serious bullet injuries from poachers. At the time of its detection by the Assam Rifles soldiers the elephant was guarded closely by its herd. The Assam Rifles vets attending to the elephant have performed surgeries and the animal is being kept under observation. More update on the welfare of the elephant recuperating from the operation is awaited, and shall be made available on AAPN soon. A picture has appeared on a local daily this morning after the elephant had undergone surgery, please see link below: http://www.telegraphindia.com/section/northeast/index.asp Do revert back to me for more pictures of the jumbo as they cannot be made available on AAPN. Would be great to have you all punching a few kind words thanking the Assam Rifles for attending to a voiceless creature in the middle of nowhere and finding time from their extremely busy routine of battling insurgency and terrorism in North east India. Guest guest
Update: Sad news, the elephant has died this morning. I spoke with some senior Assam Rifles officials who have confirmed that the elephant was being attended to by Forest department officials assisted by civilians who initially informed them about the injured animal. The extent of the bullet injury was serious and old. The animal was refusing any liquid or solid food and was intravenously fed.
