Guest guest
Link: http://www.assamtribune.com/scripts/details.asp?id=nov1107\ne8 *Probe ordered into bison poaching * AGARTALA, Nov 10 – A high level inquiry has been ordered by the Tripura Government into the killing of a bison by poachers in the Trishna Wildlife Sanctuary, State Forest Minister Jitendra Chowdhury said. " It is a matter of concern that a group of poachers are active to kill the endangered bisons which we are trying to conserve with special protection in Trishna Wildlife sanctuary, " Chowdhury told reporters here yesterday. " Police are conducting a separate investigation to track down the poachers, " he added. The head of the bison, an endangered wild animal, was recovered by forest guards when it was being hacked to pieces by poachers at Kotpathar near the Indo-Bangla border in Tripura on Wednesday night. The poachers fired two rounds and fled sensing the presence of the forest guards, who retaliated. The forest guards later recovered the head of the bison. A person arrested from the spot later said that most of the bison's caracass had already been sent to Bangladesh by the poachers, official sources said. Initially there were 150 bisons in the sanctuary, but the number has gone down to 100 due to poaching and habitat loss, the sources said. – PTI -- Fight captive Jumbo abuse, end Elephant Polo http://www.stopelephantpolo.com
