Guest guest
Even a cursory knowledge of the activities of anti elephant polo campaigners will reveal that they have campaigned for a wide range of elephant abuse issues over the years. I am thus somewhat at a loss to understand where and why frustration and non persuasive tactics kick in. OK, let us be generous and begin from the premise that elephant polo is benign and if it is benign why campaign against it? In reply I hereby append a paragraph from my previous post quoting the renowned ethologist Desmond Morris. It speaks about performing wild animals and I believe that no one will disagree with the contention that elephants playing polo are performing wild animals. I emphasise this bit: " I felt compelled to outline a new Bill of Rights for animals and formulated ten commandments that we must obey if we are to show true respect for other species. Two of those commandments are relevant here. One states that 'No animal should be dominated or degraded to entertain us,' and another adds that 'No animal should be kept in captivity unless it can be provided with an adequate physical and social environment.' It is hard to think of a performing animal act that does not break at least one of these two rules and it is high time that we re-examined this whole subject with a more critical eye.
