Thanks for sharing the info Lynette. There is something very important that

you need to note from the videos.... This is something you would also hear

if you have spoken to the players at any of the previously held elephant

polo matches. -------- * " We prefer the youngest ones........... " *

That to me is the biggest of all concerns. THere were a couple of people who

argued that elephants were in abundance but never replied to me when I asked

them why were there Sonepur melas then (cos they dont have an

answer)......but worse if more of these wretched players prefer the youngest

ones, the result is going to be disasterous.

1) Lets take the so called " abundant " captive elephants - the young (even

before they are weaned) could be separated from their mothers for extended

periods of time which could cause not only physical about treamendous

amounts of psychological stress.

2) Money can lure people to capture more young from the wild. This could

also mean killing the mothers and aunts in the herd to get to the kids. I

might be thinking on the extremes, but with the species called humans and

having seen their acts for the greed of money, anything is possible.

3) For the couple of people who claimed that we have elephants in

abundance.....well now is definitly an opportunity to soon have more captive

elephants.
