I was told by a cattle trader on conditions of anonymity that North

east India, specially the state of Meghalaya' cattle market gets

cattle for slaughter from all sections of farmers from Indian states

that include those who follow Hinduism.

Cattle that is rendered useless for milk or ploughing fields is sold

to traders and every one who sells them is well aware that the trader

will use the animal for food and/ or leather and nothing else.

Dear Azam Siddiqui Sahib,

Your information is 100% correct. Actually, normally it is a Economic &

legal problem & not a communal one.

A breeder gets 154 Lt milk per lactation i.e. app.RS.1,800/- whereas

supposed to spend RS.5,000/-. So the moment a cow gets dry he goes to Mandi

and sells at app. RS.2-3,000/-.Whereas, a butcher gets 150-200 Kgs beef

@.RS.100/- per Kg, Leather RS.600-1000/-, Bone 15 Kg RS.300/- blood 10-12 Lt

which goes to medicine factories or for ark (illicit liqueur) making as

fragmenting agent. He gets app.20,000/- per Cattle without paying a single

penny to exchequer though paying bribe to Police, Corporation & different

concerned officials & politicians.

The trade of billions of Rupees is going on without any legal, hygiene,

moral controls.

The effect of this is the penetration of synthetic highly hazardous milk,

increased cost of cultivation, high medicine cost because of unhygienic meat

consumption etc apart from violation of laws of the land in force.

with regards

yours
