Some dogs spend their entire miserable lives confined in this way. A group of animal welfare campaigners got together with Lamma Animal Welfare Centre and Hong Kong Dog Rescue to make a TV commercial that aims to convince such pet owners that caging dogs is cruel. It was financed by a HK$90,000 grant from the Sir Robert Ho Tung Charitable Fund, and Karen Mok Man-wai, the singer and film star, donated her time to appear in the advert. The first screenings have already been shown on TVB Jade. But the team has only enough money for about 12 screenings near Chinese New Year. Donors are welcome. The registered charity, Lamma Animal Welfare Centre, is custodian. Its address is G/F, 39 Sha Po Old Village, Yung Shue Wan. Donations may be made through Hong Kong Dog Rescue, too. Anyone interested in helping to spread the message about the cruelty of caging dogs, please contact rmedcalf. A suitable corporate sponsor could arrange to have its logo and message added.
