Guest guest
Dear All, I had posted the link to the NDTV report on the Jallikattu Bull Fight. It may be noted that the link to the news report has one comment which reads as follows: " I hope we spend the precious time of supreme court on more relevant issues. I think TN govt has come up with a good compromise that assures reasonable safetly while sustaining a millenium old tradition. We don't bat an eye-lid for the millions of cattle that are slaughered for meat or leather. This issue gets so much attention only because of its visibility. So, what comes next? Animal sacrifices in temples? Posted by Robby at 2:5 on Jan 10, 2008 " Now I would like you all to submit fitting replies to the above and why you think that Bull fights such as Jallikattu should be eradicated. Slavery, for example, was once a popular practice and thrived for a very long time. Now we realise it was evil and unjust. It will take some time yet, sadlly, but eventually people will realise that abusing - and, yes, sacrificing - innocent animals to satisfy ignorant superstitions from an uneducated bygone era is also unnacceptable in the modern world. Why are you not fighting to put a ban on eating non-veg food? Every day thousands of animals are being slaughtered for sense gratification, why are you not protesting for that? Where were you all since independence, why did you take so much time to ban it? Posted by susheel at 21:51 on Jan 11, 2008 # Mr. Sankar pointed out the problem of understanding culture sitting in Delhi. Following were the judges on the bench " three-Judge Bench comprising Chief Justice K.G. Balakrishnan, Justice Tarun Chatterjee and Justice R.V. Raveendran " last name's Balakrishnan and Raveendran does not sound to be north indian name. Grow up buddy, discuss the issue , But NOT mislead with N & S issues like your political figures. Posted by genunixx at 21:22 on Jan 11, 2008 # Great news, Why un-necessary pain & sufferings to the animals for a fun ? Posted by Naresh Kadyan at 16:17 on Jan 11, 2008 # I have lost my faith on the Sup court. These people are trying to ban each and every thing. How many of them are vegetarians, eating non veg stuffs also amount to cruelty. It is an age old sport that had spanned for many centuries, and just one judgment will deter my children and grand children to forget about valour and gallantry.. Posted by balaji at 15:46 on Jan 11, 2008 # AWESOME Posted by azam siddiqui at 14:41 on Jan 11, 2008 # Once again, the cultural difference between N and S coming to the fore. Its unfortunate that the judges sitting in Delhi did not appreciate the fact that its part of History and culture of the people of Madurai. The fact that the bullfight dates back to 3rd century tells everything about how significant this race is. the ridiculous part still is the suggestion to have cart race instead. Bull S***.
