Guest guest
Dear Friends, Today has indeed been a black day for all of us with the Supreme Court permitting the conduct of jallikattu. All of us are aware of the cruelty inherent in the " sport " and are all aware that no amount of safeguards or supervision will minimise this torture of the animals. That this is being supported as a requirement of some God is even more shocking. Please keep up the pressure on by writing to every group you know asking for their support. Letters to the editor are needed. The animals have no one else to talk for them. Fortunately, we have the backing and support of the Animal Welfare Board - do not lose this opportunity to do your bit for animals. The outbreak of avian influenza in West Bengal means another slaughter of hundreds of thousands of chicken. Many of you would have already seen scenes of thes hapless birds being picked up by the armful and thrown into pits. How they are going to be killed is even more shocking. S. Chinny Krishna Appeal from Secretary, AWBI Dear Animal Lover, The Hon. Suprem court Has banned the Cruel sport (modern version!!- more commercialised) of Jallikattu on 11. 1.2008, in a landmark judgement terming it as cruel, barbaric act of torturing animals. This was delivered by Three bench judges headed by Hon. Chief Justice of India. As you are aware , the Governemnt of Tamilnadu has already filed a review petition in the SC and coming for hearing on 15.1.2008. As part of this animal Welfare family, May I appeal to all of You to use the strong mediums of communication such as Letters, SMS thru mobile and other public awareness campaign to spread good message across why jallikattu should not be conducted and what cruelty is done during jallikattu etc. May I request you to kindy be part of this team effort please? -- With Warm Regards, D.Rajasekar,IFS Secretary, Animal Welfare Board of India, Ministry of Environment & Forests, Govt. of India, 13/1 3rd Seaward street, Valimiki Nagar, Thiruvanmiyur, Chennai 600 041. Guest guest
Dear Dr Chinny, AWBI members/ representatives on AAPN (if any) and others, Where do we go now? What next? I was hoping that the Jallikattu Ban could be used as a tool to halt Buffalo fights of Assam etc. But that does not seem to be possible in near future. I am told that the organisers of the Buffalo Fight in Ahatguri in Morigaon district are going ahead with the event planned as schedule tomorrow. Although the Deputy commissioner has said that no prior permission has been sought from him for this by any organiser. The pressure that I tried to build through media also seems to weaken. The NDTV website that features the news report on Jallikattu ban has got just a couple of signatures and comments. Can some more punch in your opinions please. We need more fire. Please throw ideas. Thanks, Azam aapn , " Dr.Chinny Krishna " <drkrishna wrote: > > > > > Dear Friends, > > Today has indeed been a black day for all of us with the Supreme Court > permitting the conduct of jallikattu.
