The buffalo fight is the biggest of its kind, held every year in Ahatguri village of Morigaon district. Though inflicting such unnecessary pain on animals is illegal under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals act, people in Assam refuse to give up their tradition. ''It's a tradition since the 40s and we are not willing to give up. It will go on,'' said Kamala Das, Resident. About 130 people were injured at the Jallikattu bull festival in Tamil Nadu, even after it was held under Supreme Court guidelines. But with this buffalo festival in Assam having escaped the eyes of the law, there's no knowing what might happen at this festival, which will go on in all its resplendent cruel glory.
