Hello to all on the aapn list,

I am writing to update you on the progress of PhaNgan Animal Care.

For the full story, please visit our Home Page http://www.pacthailand.org ,

where our current situation, past acheivements and future objectives are

outlined in a powerpoint presentation, beautifully illustrated by

examples of PAC patients.

The summary is that we have been in operation since September 2001,

working primarily as a veterinary nursing clinic, caring for all the

animals on the island of Koh PhaNgan.

In the first six years, PAC:

- performed 12,000 consultations for sick and injured animals

- gave 3,200 Rabies vaccinations (no case since opening)

- neutered 2,200 animals (no poisoning for population control since

December 2003)

- developed and taught a 16 week 'Understanding Animals' course since

November 2004

and a lot more!

Our current premises are on school grounds, and, due to new regulations

relating to the violence in the South of Thailand, our rental contract

has been prematurely terminated. In addition, it is not possible to

register as a Foundation from these premises, so now PAC must move.

Due to the time and expense involved, we want to do this only once, and

we want to do it properly: PAC will buy land, build permanent premises,

and register as a legal Foundation.

PAC has received full support from the local government for this idea,

and it has been agreed that the 'Patusak' (government officer in charge

of stray animals) will join PAC's legal committee and work together with

PAC to care for Koh PhaNgan's stray animals. We are very pleased with

this, and harbour hopes that the success of this partnership will

inspire the Thai government to consider such an arrangement in other

municipalities.

For the project costs, PAC has been actively fund-raising, and has

already secured 3.2 Million of the 5 Million THB (~US$162,000) required.

PAC is currently actively fund-raising and the future looks very hopeful

that before the end of the year, PAC will become a permanent part of Koh

PhaNgan. We are so very grateful for the kind and generous hearts of

those who are helping us to reach this goal.

We hope that you enjoy our lovely story!

Wishing everyone a successful and joy-filled 2008,

Yours,

Shevaun
