JBF conducted Free Animal Birth Control Programme for Homeless and Homed Local

dogs at Guwahati, Assam, India.

24th, January ‘08, Guwahati: JBF(INDIA) has successfully completed its first

phase of Free Animal Birth Control Programme for Homeless and Homed Local dogs

at JBF Animal Relief Centre, 4-Chandan Nagar, Survey, Beltola, Guwahati, Assam,

India, as a part of it’s animal welfare activities. JBF team captured many

homeless dogs and conscious keepers of local dogs also brought their local pets

to the centre and got operated. Total 11 dogs have been operated between

11.00hrs to 15.00hrs out of which 6 were male and 5 were female. Operations

were carried out by renowned Delhi based Veterinary Surgeon Dr. Sanjib Kakoty

accompanied by Dr’s S. Ali, Bitupona, Jolly & assistants Debojit, Mridul, Ratul

and Manoj, the JBF Team.

According to Dr. Smriti, the Coordinator of the programme & also the Hony.

Animal Welfare Officer, AWBI, Ministry of Environment and Forest, “JBF has taken

many steps as part of animal welfare activities. Animal Birth Control Programme

for dogs is one of those and JBF has received remarkable response and could

motivate people to some extent. This is how JBF is trying to promote the idea of

adoption of local dogs instead of killing them. Sterilization promotes their

welfare by not killing them cruelly, prevents maltreatment in the form of

cruelty, abuse, the unwanted puppies that becomes the part of the homeless

population, improves the health of individual dogs and also have behavioural

benefits like aggressiveness and reduce roaming. These all will ultimately

significantly affect human health by reducing disease like rabies etc.”

Dr. Sashanka, Managing Trustee of JBF(INDIA) wishes that if authorities come

forward and take some steps in this regard, we can be more successful and do

more welfare of animals as well as human.
