Like DasMarinas Village, where the neutered cats waiting for adoption were shot,

Bel Air Village is an 'upscale' neighborhood.

In Bel Air, 6 captured stray cats to be sent to the pound were left in cages for

four days, out in the sun, with no water or food..

PHOTOS ATTACHED OF ANIMAL CRUELTY

this afternoon barbara, tracy and myself came across terrible animal cruelty in

Bel Air Village.

we learned that upon approval of the barangay, cat traps were used to catch 6

village strays. we were told that the cats would be held for 3 working days

before being turned over to the makati pound for either disposal or euthanasia.

upon visiting the area where the cats were confined, we discovered that the cats

had been kept in the traps for 4 days without food, water or shelter! one black

cat looked close to death. two other ginger cats were severely dehydrated.

the cats were brought to vets in practice clinic immediately. three cats were

placed on IV by dr. melay.

this is clearly a violation of section 6 of the Animal Welfare Act 8485.

it is a shame that upscale villages like Bel Air lack both the education and

knowledge regarding the rights and welfare of animals.

Update:

Nancy has provided us with an update of the topic:

ATTACHED ARE PHOTOS OF 3 BEL AIR CATS AT VIP CLINIC - 2 EUTHANIZED, 1 ON IV DRIP

the following is an update on the cruelty to the trapped bel air cats as of

wednesday, dec 19

after the discovery of 6 trapped stray cats held without shelter, food or water

for 4 days at the bel air - mr jun gomez, the new barangay captain, assured us

that he is willing to adapt the Spay/Neuter program suggested by CARA welfare

phils. to control the stray cat population in that village. he recalled the 5

traps that had been loaned to several residents, and will put the catching of

cats on hold until january 4, 2008.

CARA will submit its proposal for a humane and proven solution to the control of

the stray cat population - therefore preventing the birth of kittens and the

noise made during mating. we are confident that the barangay officials and the

residents will work together with CARA in this program implemented around the

world.

disposal is not part of this program. the stray cats within the village are the

responsibility of bel air and are needed to control the rodent population. i

think that we all agree the best option to have is cats and not rats.

this afternoon, 2 of the trapped cats had to be euthanized because of severe

dehydration. one cat remains on IV at the clinic. the remaining 3 will undergo

recovery before being neutered next week by CARA.
