The leopard, when cornered by people, attacked and injured seven people. The police arrived too late to do any crowd control and the forest department captured the animal but it succumbed to its injuries. The Pune-Nashik area is home to hundreds of wild leopards that have been straying into the rapidly developing cities due to the loss of their wild habitat. This is the fifth leopard that has been lynched by a mob in the last year.
