According to the released figures, there are less than 60 tigers in Orissa and less than 30 in the Simplipal National Park, which is one of the first project tiger reserves in the country. The Orissa Forest Department, headed by Patnaik, has maintained that Simplipal alone has more than 100 tigers. This figure was arrived at after the pugmark count. The Chief Minister has termed the pugmark method as inaccurate. He is now planning to lodge objections in the Ministry of Environment as well as the Wildlife Institute of India for the census figures. -- United against elephant polo http://www.stopelephantpolo.com
