Guest guest
Old 'n' wild poacher TIMES NEWS NETWORK Bangalore: He's 69 years old and has diabetes and high blood pressure. But age and illness haven't deterred Abdul Khadar Choudhary from travelling over 600 km each month to trade in wildlife items. He's also one of the oldest traders in the country and a crucial link between interstate poaching gangs. On Sunday, Abdul made another trip from Hyderabad to Hubli, except this time he was escorted by state CID forest cell sleuths. Abdul was arrested in Hyderabad and brought to Hubli in connection with two cases where 66 pelts of scheduled wild animals were seized last December. During simultaneous raids in Hubli and Haliyal, the CID forest cell had recovered 43 otter skins, 23 leopard pelts and a tiger pelt, and arrested three persons, including Prabhakar Keshav Gajakosh, a poacher in South India. Another accused, Durra, a Baheliya poacher from Katni, Madhya Pradesh, is absconding. Choudhary's name figured in 2004, when Rani, wife of poacher Sansar Chand, and I P Singh, a Hakki Pikki tribal from Hassan, were arrested in Jaipur. Singh named Choudhary as the link between poachers of North India and their counterparts here. Later, Gajakosh's arrest led to Choudhary's arrest. " Preliminary investigations reveal that interstate gangs exported 600 tiger pelts in the past decade,'' said K S N Chikkerur, IGP (CID forest cell). -- WOCON: http://groups.google.co.inwocon
