Guest guest
Dear Mr Kadyan, Thank you for posting this. Please also note that historically it has to be borne in mind that Akbar was a hunter who kept 1000(some records say 9000) Cheetahs. If anyone kept that large a population of animals for personal whims, he would be roundly censured today. The Asiatic Cheetah is now extinct in India and Akbar helped the extermination of the species by keeping them in captivity where they bred only once. ANIMAL PEOPLE quotes Akbar's respect for animals in pro zoo comments but they should also take note of this aspect of his character that exploited wild animals for personal pleasure. I have seen the film and indeed there are aspects that could be questioned as cruel treatment of animals, especially the scene where Akbar 'plays' with the elephant and ultimately dominates the animal. It does send the wrong message. Even clearance from the AWBI should not be taken as a benchmark for humane treatment since AWBI cleared an abusive activity like elephant polo in Jaipur in 2006. Please keep all of us informed on the progress of the prosecution of the film makers and related organisations.Good luck. Best wishes and kind regards, Yours sincerely, On 2/24/08, Naresh Kadyan <kadyan.ipfa wrote: > > THE FIR BE LODGED AGAINST JODHA AKBAR FILM PRODUCER / DIRECTOR - NARESH > KADYAN <http://jodhaakbar-kadyan.blogspot.com/> > <http://www.care2.com/news/member/374874447/647989> > Dear Sir/ Madam, > > http://jodhaakbar-kadyan.blogspot.com/ > Please go through the said links & full information has been given. Guest guest
Thank you Naresh for pursuing this matter to the extent you have been. I was curious about this film since I saw the trailer some months back and could not believe all of those elephants. In the states our humane film board (and this is a private organization) monitors (for the films they are able to) the treatment of the animals on the set and does not protest or comment on how the animals are depicted in cruel uses throughout the film. The monitoring of the treatment on the set is their only function. The film board is not setting standards for plot and advocacy of kindness for animals within the actual film! Using that amount of animals for any film no doubtedly would result in some degree of harm and of course there is no reason to use animals in " entertainment " at all I would heartily agree. I wish I had the time to comment to the numerous blogs about the film where people are debating the history matters and commenting and of course no one mentions the animals. aapn , " Naresh Kadyan " <kadyan.ipfa wrote: > > THE FIR BE LODGED AGAINST JODHA AKBAR FILM PRODUCER / DIRECTOR - NARESH > KADYAN <http://jodhaakbar-kadyan.blogspot.com/> > <http://www.care2.com/news/member/374874447/647989> > Dear Sir/ Madam, > > http://jodhaakbar-kadyan.blogspot.com/ > Please go through the said links & full information has been given. That a ruler of Akbar's time or earlier was a hunter was more-or-less a given. Trying to find rulers in history who did not hunt is like trying to find evidence of bears who use flush toilets. What was unusual about Akbar was that while most the other rulers of his time were killing animals with even less thought about it than they applied to killing their human enemies & expending the lives of their own infantry, Akbar promoted the idea of animals as " brothers " to humans. This of course did not preclude killing either animals or brothers. Akbar after all killed his own half brother Adham by dropping him on his head from a great height in 1562, twice -- but history records that Adham was a particularly grotesque & vicious serial killer, even by the standards of feudal monarchs. -- Merritt Clifton Editor, ANIMAL PEOPLE P.O. Guest guest
Thank you Naresh for pursuing this matter to the extent you have been. I wrote earlier about this & asked AWBI to take timely proper steps. I came to know that Board has taken effective step & shifted the Sub Committee Meeting from Chennai to Delhi to avoid this kind of negligence in future. regards DR.
