We would like to help. My question is: if we collect signatures here in Italy and world wide with the support of OIPA members league, is there someone in China that can do an hand delivery of the petition? I need advise, please. If someone can help me, please write me. My mail is international Love, Paola
Guest guest
It's a good idea if you can start the petition but it willbe more powerful if the petition includes some voice of spreading the information around the world and the boycotting of tourism and products of that nation. Deliver the petition is not big problem but the power of petition is a question. This because of most countries in Asia doesn't care about the animal rights, and sadly, half of their citizens also not so care about the animal suffer. Guest guest
Dear Paola, I don't wish to be discouraging but petitions and boycotts are not likely to be effective. What I would advise is that each concerned individual should write a polite but sincere individual letter to the Chinese Ambassador in his/her country. It is the duty of the Ambassador to convey foreign views to the government in Beijing. Best wishes. Guest guest
Well, I am not sure I agree. Our petition for Stop Monkey Business (from www.stopmonkeybusiness.org) is helping persuade the government here and inspiring others around the world to help (recent protests in London in front of Nepali Embassy can attest to that). Petitions need to be part of a campaign, but not the campaign itself. See: http://www.petitiononline.com/mod_perl/signed.cgi?anpo There are thousands of signatures there and many heartfelt comments regarding Nepal and how this reflects poorly on the government here. As tourism is a big boon for this nation, the impact is economical if the threat of not coming is made. Not sure if Chinese officials would pay any attention however, China seems to be an anomaly vs. the smaller poorer countries in Asia like Nepal. Cheers!
