Orangutan of the Month: Adopt Madsen in March

From Madsen's Story:

" The fifth village was our destination. It looked almost like the others but

with bigger houses and a few more people around. We asked for Ibu Bowo... just

down the road. A woman with a towel around her head and a sarong stood in front

of a small house with some kids around. I asked for Ibu Bowo... it was her.

I asked about the orangutan. She smiled and nodded. Perhaps she thought I wanted

to buy it. When I told her who I was, her face changed and she told me she had

just sold it. Fortunately the kids came to my rescue. " The monkey with the red

hair or the grey one? " they asked. The red of course. One of the kids went off,

obviously not having heard his mother telling me she had sold it. And minutes

later appearing with a tiny infant orangutan screaming at the top of his lungs.

The kid was only holding the infant by its hands and in front of him, perhaps so

the orangutan could not pee on him. And the poor little thing was terrified. I

grabbed him quickly and he hung on to my shirt for dear life. Finally someone

who would hold him like his mother had done.... "
