The Da Niu Fang compound in Haidian District, for instance, is very close to our shelter, and even us do not have any access to the cats inside. The government has set up compounds in the major districts such as Haidian or Chaoyang in Beijing " . We are trying to make efforts to lobby government from culling of the cats but since we are terribly understaffed, we are not sure how much an impact our efforts could generate to alter the practice of our government. We do want to make clear, however, that we do not endorse to use this event for the campaign to oppose the Olympics in Beijing this summer. We appreciate your care.Let us know if you have any suggestions. Sincerely, Luguan Yan International Liaison China Small Animal Protection Society ________________________________ csapa CC: luguan_y Fw: Cat cull in Beijing Fri, 14 Mar 2008 13:10:21 +0800 - Diana Hartig csapa Friday, March 14, 2008 12:32 AM Cat cull in Beijing China Small Animal Protection Association BEIJING ******************************************* Ladies and Gentlemen, I was wondering if you could shed some light for me on the current Beijing drive for stray cats - the " Cat Cull " apparently gotten underway by the Beijing authorities to clean the city of its stray cats. Animals Asia have now confirmed this is happening. Last weekend a rather upsetting article appeared in the British Daily Mail: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/live/articles/news/worldnews.html?in_articl e_id=528694 & in_page_id=1766 Doubts as to the truth of the information contained have been voiced, but without more up-to-date information from Beijing organisations/activists this is difficult to verify what is happening, and at what scale. I would therefore be most grateful for your help in this matter. With kind regards, Diana Hartig Germany
