Guest guest
*Just visited an aquarium in Digha, a seaside resort in West Bengal near the Orissa border. Rather a disappointing and depressing facility with a severely depleted animal collection. A lone stereotypic Grouper constantly rubbing itself against the glass, several starfishes and puffer fishes, a single Conger Eel and some Butterfly fishes. No entry fee and mostly non existent identification and educational material. Thankfully no sea snakes are exhibited. Was informed there was a single Sting Ray that died two days ago. A government facility that must have cost a lot in building infrastructure. Serves very little conservation purpose really.Aquariums are zoos although they are seldom recognised as such.*
