FROM THE DESK OF HONY. GEN SECRETARY: This month of March has been eventful in that it has brought a lot of good news to all of us at PAWS. We all know that PAWS is working tirelessly for the cause of animals /environment since the last 7 years. All this while, PAWS never courted the media; which is undoubtedly one of the most effective ways to spread awareness amongst the 'AAM JUNTA'. We did give press releases, but were never covered on TV. But last week 'Times Now' attended our vaccination drive, shot footage of rescue & first aid of animals done by our founder Anuradha. This was a feather in our cap since the media felt important to high-light our work. Some more good news awaited us as Fizzah Shah won the 'Kisko Milega Cash' contest & raised money for the cause of animals. Both these events were important to us since our charities got the attention which was much required since the beginning of animal welfare work. Fizza's victory is our victory! With active & continuous support from all of you, we pledge to continue to spread our cherished cause. 2. URGENT ATTENTION: PAWS is always in need of funds as it is largely dependent on local donations from animal lovers, volunteers & valuable supporters like you. Even a small contribution will make a difference in the life of the injured animals. For Direct Transfer of Donations: Bank : ICICI Bank Ltd. Branch : Dombivli MIDC Branch A/C. No. : 008801026804 Name of A/C : 'PLANT & ANIMALS WELFARE SOCIETY' Thank You! 3. SOME NOTABLE FIELD CALLS: ## On 4th February, PAWS secretary Nilesh received a call from resident of Kalyan, Ms. Shilpa Harkare, narrating that a cat had fallen in a 30 feet deep well, since past 15 days. PAWS Secretary Nilesh & Mansi Bhanage rushed to the spot within an hour & with the help of Fire Brigade, the cat was rescued after a two hour rescue operation. We are proud of 'Ms. Shilpa Harkare', a true animal lover who ensured that the kitten was fed & survived. He called PAWS volunteer Mansi. She & Mr. Jadye reached the spot & forced the owner to unite the calf with its mother. The calf was so young that it could not even eat the grass. Mr. Jadye & Mansi accompanied the calf till the calf went back to its mother cow. We are now regularly keeping a vigil on the calf & if the owner is found using the small calf for begging, we plan to make sure that she will be taken to the police station. ## On 11th March, volunteer Crystal Fernandes, spotted a pony in Kalyan tied to a tonga with bruises on its back. She immediately spoke to the owner & warned him to take proper care. After enquiry, we came to know that the owner visited the ACP office to register the 7 year old pony. The police at ACP office supported Crystal in her stand. ## In another incident on 11th March, the Fire brigade called PAWS, to help rescue a female dog which had fallen in a deep gutter. PAWS ambulance reached the spot at 9 pm & rescued the dog. Its ear was badly wounded and was infested with maggots. PAWS admitted the dog at Thane SPCA where he is recuperating now. We thank TSPCA for their co-operation in timely admission. 4. They were also using abusive and filthy language.. PAWS sent a strong letter to society as the dogs in her care are properly vaccinated & also sterilized. So they are totally harmless & are good watchdogs. After PAWS sent the letter, the matter was solved amicably. # On March 18, Ms. Pooja Kekre, an animal lover from Dombivli phoned PAWS that her society wanted to abandon a small puppy & her mother in another area. This is a cruelty since a dog from one area is not accepted by dogs from another area. These results into fights & finally animals get injured.
