International conference in China discusses animal welfare

 

Animal Health & Welfare

 

In an effort to encourage the introduction of measures to protect the

health and welfare of farm animals, the European Commission supports

an international conference taking place in on March 29 and 30.

 

The International Forum " The Importance of Animal Welfare Science to

Sustainable Agriculture " is jointly organised by Compassion in World

Farming (CIWF), the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to

Animals (RSPCA), the World Society for the Protection of Animals

(WSPA) and the Humane Society International (HIS).

 

The Rural Development Institute of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences

(CASS) hosts the event in Beijing . The conference will bring

together leading scientists and academics from Europe, North America

and as well as delegates from International Organisations to discuss

the implications of farm animal welfare science to sustainable

agriculture and society.

 

The Commission supports the conference in accordance with the aim of

the Community Action Plan on the Protection and Welfare of Animals

2006-2010 to promote international initiatives that will raise

awareness about animal welfare.
