PAWS ANNUAL REPORT ON AWARENESS & EDUCATION

 

A) AWARENESS :

 

PAWS Education program In-Charge Sonali Bagde along Crystal, Anahita,

Lalita helped this year in school / college programs.

 

## 5th March, Education Program In-Charge Sonali along with Anahita

Kumar & Lalita Gopalan conducted a 'Compassionate Citizen' program in

KDMC's 'Gaikwad School'. The program continued the next day with Crystal

Fernandes taking charge.

 

## On 10th March, Malad based School 'Children's Academy' approached

PAWS, expressing the desire that the students wanted to help animals.

They contributed Rs.20/- each & raised the money for 14 Anti-Rabies

vaccine vials. Out of which PAWS vaccinated 140 stray dogs against

rabies. PAWS Founder Anuradha, along with Sonali, Crystal, Anahita &

Lalita participated in program. Vet injected 3 stray dogs with

Anti-rabies shots to demonstrate the process to students.

## Sonali, Arifa & Darshna conducted the program 'Compassionate Citizen'

for 6th Standard students in St. John Hi-School Thane on 7th February.

 

## PAWS volunteers Sonali Bagde & Bhakti Shah interacted with little

Orphans at Orphanage children @ 'Parivartan Mahila Sanstha' in Titwala.

They also played a made CD show of 'Compassionate Citizen' on 24th

February 2008.

 

## On 6th & 7th December, PAWS volunteer Sonali Bagde conducted a

'Compassionate Citizen' show @ Raghunath Mhatre School in Dombivli.

Students Anahita Kumar & Lalita Gopalan organized an awareness program

for school children on 4th October - on World Animal Day. The Malad

based 'Children's Academy School' called PAWS to give a lecture. The

same was organized with due diligence. This program was followed by a

question and answer session between the students and the Veterinary

team. Teachers & Principal thanked PAWS for the same.

 

B) ADVERTISMENTS & CAMPAIGNS :

 

## In January Month - PAWS, along with an advertising company has

decided to put up a bench in a park, in memory of the Leopards that are

killed for their skins. The advertisement concept was created by

Advertisement Company and was accepted by PAWS. We received a good

response for the same.

 

## PAWS along with an advertising company decided to publish

advertisements against cruelty to animals in Newspaper. The

advertisement concept was created by Advertisement Company which was

approved by PAWS. The series of advertisements published in 28, 29 &

30th December's Mumbai issues of 'Free Press Journal'. We received good

responses for the same.

 

C) PROJECTS & PRESENTATIONS WITH PAWS:

 

It has been a constant endeavor at PAWS to collaborate with Management

Students to so as to enable them to do their summer projects with PAWS.

It is a mutually beneficial venture.

 

## Meghna Ahluwalia & Keith D'Silva of WNS Travel Operations visited

PAWS office for their buddy Project of Quality DNA

(Develop-Nurture-Aspired). Under that they selected PAWS as the core

organization also attended the vaccination drive organized by PAWS.

 

## Priynka Shenwai along with Nikita Sawant who is also PAWS volunteer,

participated in PAWS vaccination drive as part of their project on

'Broadcast Journalism'. They are the doing Bachelor in Mass Media from

SIES college of

Art. They shot the entire vaccination drive & presented the video in

class. Very soon, this video will be available on our website.

 

## Ms. Jenny Briganza of AIESEC visited PAWS office on 3rd February, to

discuss about Volunteer Opportunities with PAWS. PAWS Secretary gave a

brief talk on animal welfare & educational work that has been taken-up

by PAWS.

 

## On 5th February, a 12 yr. old young student of St. John School,

Master Kayomarz Darukhanwalla visited PAWS office along with his

parents. He is was one of the 20 finalists who are appearing for Action

research project by 'Dr. Homi Bhabha Young Scientists'. He had taken-up

the subject 'Nurturing the Nature- Hobby'. Under that head he had

selected Animal Welfare as hobby and PAWS as the is ideal organization.

His projects include interaction with animals, study PAWS functioning,

spreading awareness among his schoolmates. Subsequently on 12th

February, PAWS volunteers Ms. Sonali, Ms. Darshna & Ms. Arifa visited

his school & made presentation of 'Compassionate Citizen' to the

students. He submitted his final report to his school / association. He

also collected few donations on behalf of some donation for PAWS.

 

## On 24th February, Sunil, Violet, Akshaya, Sima, Ashrita - the

students from Birla College visited PAWS office for their project on

'Professional Skill Development'. PAWS secretary interacted with them &

gave an overview about developing skills development through

participation with NGO.

 

## Mr. Deshmukh belonging to Roha, district Raigad, visited the PAWS

office & also participated in a Vaccination drive organized by the PAWS

team. Mr. Deshmukh is an ardent animal lover who helps stray animals and

tends to the wildlife in Roha area. He is eager to start a charity in

his hometown. PAWS provided guidance for the same.

 

## October month we had unique visitors. None other than the pretty

students from 'Frank Finn Institute of Air Hostess' who are doing a

one-year course. As part of Personality Development assignment, students

interacted with the PAWS team. PAWS volunteers Prasad Phadke, Mansi

Bhanage & Nilesh Bhanage welcomed the guests, had a brief chat, gave

them required information, answered their eager queries and finally

ended-up with a power point presentation emphasizing PAWS's work in

Thane District spanning half a decade. Students made video

presentations of rescue activities & interviewed Mr. Prasad Phadke.

 

## Ms. Janhvi Sawant, a student of Bhavan's College Andheri, visited all

the way from andheri in September 2007. She brought the letter

requesting PAWS to help her in her college project on NGO's. She

selected PAWS, as model NGO for her project. PAWS secretary Mr. Nilesh

helped her by giving PAWS presentation & explaining each activity

thoroughly.

 

D) VOLUNTEER TRAINING & PARTICIPATION IN WORKSHOP:

 

## PAWS volunteers demanded the rescue training which was due since 2

years. The last training was organized in 2006 at Hariyali Office on

'Snake Rescue & Rehabilitation' by Dr. Gowri Mallapur. After that we

again organized training program on 22 nd March on the eve of a public

holiday on the topic 'Rescue & First Aid'. Over 40 people attended the

training program.

Our guest lecturers D. Gruprasad Mahadik delivered a talk on 'First Aid'

while Mr. Hemkant Gupte shared his expertise on rescuing birds,

treatment, species of birds found in thane. It was a very interactive

session. Many volunteers took first aid medicines from PAWS. We thank

Mr. Maksud for designing entire booklet with Mr. Nilesh. We are also

grateful to Anuradha for arranging the venue as well as Crystal, Lalita,

Anushree & Anahita who helped in organizing the entire event.

 

## PAWS Trustee Mr. Nilesh Bhanage along with volunteer Mr. Shivprasad

Phadke attended a the 3 days workshop on 'Wildlife Rescue &

Rehabilitation' as well as a 2 day2days members meet held at Centenary

Hall @ Kaziranga National Park, Assam hosted by Wildlife Trust of India

& IFAW. It included a visit to Kaziranga National Park as well as Pakke

Tiger Reserve, Arunachal Pradesh. PAWS founder Nilesh also gave a short

presentation on 'Urban Wildlife issues of Mumbai & Suburbs' during the

in meet. It was a very good learning experience for both of the

participants.

 

## PAWS Secretary invited by Ms. Devika Mundkur in Pune to have small

volunteer meet @ her residence. A Dozen people attended the meet,

including representatives of Pune SPCA & the PAWS Pack. The meet

followed by lunch @ devika home. Later, a small talk on first aid &

medication was delivered by Nilesh & Homeopathic Treatment by Devika to

all the volunteers. It was great boost for all volunteer's, as many of

the volunteers started visiting in Pune SPCA on regular basis, to clean,

treat & help animals wherein previously they were not allowed to even

enter into premises.

 

## In April 2007, PAWS office came-up with rabies brochure which was

originally produced & distributed by WSD - Welfare of Stray dogs,

Mumbai. This brochure contains commonly asked question by people,

answered by the expert Vets.
