Guest guest Posted April 4, 2008 Report Share Posted April 4, 2008 PAWS ANTI-CRUELTY REPORT -YEAR 2007-08 ## On 13 th March, Preeti Paul - our volunteer from Ulhasnagar, who cares for dogs in her society, called us because her society members did not approve of her animal care and were creating problems for her. They were also using abusive and filthy language.. PAWS sent a strong letter to society as the dogs in her care are properly vaccinated & also sterilized. So they are totally harmless & are good watchdogs. After PAWS sent the letter, the matter was solved amicably. ## On March 18, Ms. Pooja Kekre, an animal lover from Dombivli phoned PAWS that her society wanted to abandon a small puppy & her mother in another area. This is a cruelty since a dog from one area is not accepted by dogs from another area. These results into fights & finally animals get injured. On her complaint, PAWS sent a strong letter to society, rescued the injured dog which is now recuperating. Now society does not create any problem to animals but sadly, the puppy is still missing. ## In January, PAWS team fought against the society of Vishal Murlidhar wherein society members had raised an objection against objected him for keeping pets. PAWS wrote a strong letter condemning the action and also by involving media. & got success. The newspaper clipping was circulated widely. As a result we received among everyone for their use. We had very huge response & for the same & secretary received a calls from Fizzah of IDA India, Snehal Bhatt of GSPCA, Suparna Ganguly of CUPA, Manoj Oswal of PFA Pune and, Sunish of PAWS Mumbai. They were keen who wanted to see the letters which our secretary duly forwarded to them. Smt. Again, PAWS wrote to send the concerned letter to society. ## Ms. Amita Kulkarni used to feeding several stray dogs in her society near CKP Hall area wherein the society people took objection. PAWS intervened the matter again & the problem was solved amicably. ## Ms. Mansi Bhanage used to take walk of her pet dog out for a walk everyday. The neighboring society members took objection to it & used filthy language. She along with volunteers Sourabh Chougule & Prasad Phadke, Mansi went to Ramnager Police Station and filed a complaint against the members. Since then she never faced such problems. ## PAWS office received a call from its Thakurli volunteer that a bullfight is being organized by local villagers. Finally Smt. Maneka Gandhi called the Police Commissioner and as a result all the bullfight events scheduled for the month were cancelled. But the goal is not achieved yet. Next month more bullfights will be organized. They will be declared only a day before, as the organizers are now more cautious. Let's see how we can battle against such a cruel sport. ## In June, PAWS office received call from Ms. June Rosario that she has been threatened by society people that all the doges will be taken away which was taking care of in Nalasopara area. PAWS immediately wrote a letter to the concern authorities opposing dislocation of dogs. The matter is solved after PAWS warning letter but PAWS still keeping watch on the moves of municipal authorities. ## PAWS dedicated volunteer Mira Desai & her daughters' looks after several stray dogs in Gograswadi area. In month of May, they faced problem from neighbor, also faced opposition to feed them. The neighbor also put a police complaint in Ramnagar police station against this family. PAWS already got all the dogs vaccinated & sterilized before the case is registered. PAWS representative Nilesh, Chetan & Prasad went to police station to solve the case. Finally the police agreed not to register the case. ## In April 2007, PAWS office received a call from JituBhai of Karuna that 2 Japanese Turkey's were kept tied on leash on terrace of one society. Karuna staff rescued those birds & taken them to Ramnagar police station. Ramnagar Police station called Fire brigade to decide about the birds. PAWS volunteer Kunal Chheda along with founder Nilesh went to police station. They took those birds from Police & brought them to PAWS Office. They found fit in condition.
